- For official SGPA/CGPA, always refer to your university result documents.
Examples of SGPA and CGPA Calculation
Example of SGPA Calculation:
Suppose a student has obtained the following grades in a semester:
Subject | Course Type | Credits (Ci) | Grade | Grade Point (Gi) | Ci × Gi |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Subject 1 | DSC | 4 | A+ | 9 | 36 |
Subject 2 | DSC | 4 | A | 8 | 32 |
Subject 3 | DSE | 4 | B+ | 7 | 28 |
Subject 4 | AECC | 2 | O | 10 | 20 |
Subject 5 | GE | 2 | A | 8 | 16 |
Total | 16 | 132 |
SGPA Calculation:
SGPA = Σ(Ci × Gi) / ΣCi SGPA = 132 / 16 SGPA = 8.25
Example of CGPA Calculation:
Suppose a student has the following SGPAs and credits for four semesters:
Semester | SGPA (Si) | Total Credits (Ci) | Si × Ci |
---|---|---|---|
Semester 1 | 7.25 | 20 | 145.00 |
Semester 2 | 8.50 | 22 | 187.00 |
Semester 3 | 7.80 | 24 | 187.20 |
Semester 4 | 8.75 | 20 | 175.00 |
Total | 86 | 694.20 |
CGPA Calculation:
CGPA = Σ(Si × Ci) / ΣCi CGPA = 694.20 / 86 CGPA = 8.07
Frequently Asked Questions
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is an internationally recognized education system that offers flexibility to students in choosing courses of their interest. It provides a continuous evaluation of students' performance through a grading system rather than just marks. GKV has adopted this system to align with global educational standards.
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the weighted average of grade points obtained in all courses registered by a student in a particular semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the weighted average of the SGPAs of all semesters completed by a student. CGPA gives a comprehensive view of a student's overall academic performance throughout the program.
GKV has different grading systems for different programs:
- For UG/PG/Diploma/Certificate programs: Grades range from O (Outstanding, 10 points) to F (Fail, 0 points) with mark ranges from 90-100% to below 40%.
- For M.Pharm/B.Pharm programs: Similar structure but with slightly different mark ranges and grade designations.
- For Pre-Ph.D Course work: Simplified grading with O (5.50-6.00), A (4.50-5.49), B (3.50-4.49), and F (0) grades.
GKV offers various types of courses under the CBCS system:
- DSC (Discipline Specific Course): Core courses that are fundamental to the discipline.
- DSE (Discipline Specific Elective): Elective courses related to the main discipline.
- AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course): Courses that enhance communication and analytical skills.
- GE (Generic Elective): Interdisciplinary courses that provide exposure to other disciplines.
- SEC (Skill Enhancement Course): Courses that focus on developing practical skills relevant to the industry.
To improve your CGPA at GKV, consider the following strategies:
- Focus on courses with higher credit values as they have more weight in SGPA calculation.
- Maintain consistent performance across all semesters.
- If allowed by university regulations, consider retaking courses where you scored low grades.
- Utilize the flexibility of the CBCS system to choose electives in areas where you excel.
- Seek guidance from professors and academic advisors for improvement strategies.
- Form study groups and utilize university resources like libraries and labs effectively.
