SGPA and CGPA Formulas

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average)

SGPA = (Sum of Credits × Grade Points for all courses in a semester) / Sum of Credits for all courses in the semester

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)

CGPA = (Sum of Credits × Grade Points for all semesters) / Sum of Credits for all semesters

Note: Both SGPA and CGPA are rounded to two decimal places.

The CGPA × 10 shall be deemed equivalent to percentage of marks obtained by the student.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Enter subject names, credits, and marks for each course in a semester.
  2. Add more subjects using the "Add Subject" button if needed.
  3. Add more semesters using the "Add Semester" button for calculating CGPA across multiple semesters.
  4. Click "Calculate CGPA" to compute your SGPA for each semester and overall CGPA.
  5. The system will automatically assign grade points based on the IPU grading system.
  6. Your final CGPA and division will be displayed at the bottom of the page.

Example Calculation

Semester 1

Subject Credits Marks Grade Grade Point Credits × Grade Point
Mathematics 4 85 A+ 9 36
Physics 4 75 A+ 9 36
Chemistry 3 68 A 8 24
English 2 92 O 10 20
Computer Science 3 78 A+ 9 27
Total 16 143

SGPA = 143 ÷ 16 = 8.94

CGPA Calculation

If this is the only semester, then CGPA = 8.94. If you have multiple semesters, the calculator will compute the weighted average of all semesters to determine your CGPA.

Percentage Equivalent = 8.94 × 10 = 89.4%

Division: First Division (since CGPA is above 6.50)
